Biodiversa+ launches a research call on transnational biodiversity monitoring

“Improved transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society” is the aim of the new call for research proposals launched by the European Biodiversity Partnership Biodiversa +.

This call aims to support transnational research projects (3-years duration) addressing one or more of the themes below:

  1. Innovation and harmonization of methods and tools for collection and management of biodiversity monitoring data
  2. Addressing knowledge gaps on biodiversity status, dynamics, and trends to reverse biodiversity loss
  3. Making use of available biodiversity monitoring data.

The funded projects should help to better characterize, understand and report on the state and trends of biodiversity. The call covers all environments (terrestrial, freshwater and marine), in Europe and beyond.

Research teams will be invited to form transnational research consortia with partners from minimum three different countries participating in the call and requesting support from at least three different funding organizations.

The call involves a two-step process, with a mandatory submission of pre-proposals at the first step (deadline: 9 November 2022) and submission of full proposals at the second step (deadline: 5 April 2023).

Launched on 1 October 2021, Biodiversa+ is the new European co-funded biodiversity partnership, aimed at supporting excellent research on biodiversity. It is part of the European Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 that aims to put Europe’s biodiversity on a path to recovery by 2030.
