The European Commission launches new calls to implement five missions

Following the adoption of Horizon Europe annual work programmes, the European Commission has launched new calls for 2023, worth more than 600 million euro, aimed at supporting research and innovation under five missions identified as priorities at European level:

  1. Adaptation to Climate Change;
  2. Cancer;
  3. Restore our Ocean and Waters;
  4. Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities;
  5. A Soil Deal for Europe.

This investment is aimed at better preparing local and regional authorities to face climate-related risks, optimising minimally-invasive diagnostic cancer interventions, restoring at least 25,000 km of free-flowing rivers, signing Climate City Contracts with 100 cities and creating “living laboratories” to help ensure healthier and more fertile soils.

In addition to inviting proposals covering a single topic, joint calls under one or more missions have also been opened. All information on the new opportunities, including deadline dates and funding allocations, can be found on the European Commission’s webpage dedicated to the initiative.
