Within Horizon Europe, the European Commission published online the Work Programmes for 2023-24, with around €13.5 billion to support researchers and innovators in Europe to pursue breakthrough solutions for environmental, energy, digital and geopolitical challenges.
The funding opportunities for research and innovation activities concern the following areas of intervention:
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA);
- Research Infrastructures;
- Cluster 1 – Health;
- Cluster 2 – Culture, creativity and inclusive society;
- Cluster 3 – Civil Security for Society;
- Cluster 4 – Digital, Industry and Space;
- Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility;
- Cluster 6 – Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment;
- European innovation ecosystems;
- Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area;
- Missions;
- EIC – European Innovation Council;
- ERC – European Research Council.
In particular, this funding will contribute to four interventions: €5.67 billion will be dedicated to support innovative solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting adaptation to climate change; €1.67 billion to protect biodiversity; over €4.5 billion dedicated to develop fundamental digital technologies and their integration in our lives; nearly €970 million to speed up the clean energy transition, in line with the REPowerEU Plan, and increase Europe’s energy independence from unreliable suppliers and volatile fossil fuels.
