The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) announced on the Innovitalia website the approval by the XIII Italy-South Korea Joint Research Commission of the Executive Programme for Scientific and Technological Cooperation for the years 2023-2025.
Italy’s Ambassador Federico Failla and First Secretary Chiara Ratzenberger took part in the work of the Commission while the Korean delegation included the Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau, Kim Seong-gyu, and the Deputy Director of the Europe and Africa Cooperation Division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, Sung Chang-won.
The Commission approved eight research projects ‒ contained in the agreement ‒ that are eligible to apply for co-funding over the next three years. The projects cover the following research areas: advanced materials and nanotechnology; agrifood for biotech and biopharma applications; biomedicine and technologies to face new infectious diseases; environmental sciences and energy transition; physics and astrophysics; sciences and technologies applied to cultural heritage; prevention of natural disasters and volcanology.
On the Italian side, the approved projects are coordinated by researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), the National Research Council (CNR) and from the Universities of Brescia, Salerno, Bologna and Pavia.
The next session of the Joint Commission, hosted by Italy, will take place in 2024 for the mid-term review of the ongoing projects and to initiate the negotiations for the following Executive Programme.
