The Ministry of University and Research inaugurated the National STEM Disciplines Week

From 4 to 11 February, the first National Week for Scientific, Technological, Engineering and Mathematical (STEM) Disciplines will be held to raise awareness and stimulate the interest of young people in these subjects. During #settimanastem, established last November under Law No. 187/2023, the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and a number of Universities and Research Bodies have promoted several initiatives including exhibitions, study days, meetings and lessons that will allow as many young people as possible to become familiar with these subjects, which have always driven progress and innovation.

“We need highly-specialized professionals to stimulate more and more students to choose these subjects,” explained Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research.

The attention that the Ministry dedicates to technical and scientific subjects is confirmed by the launch, during this special week, of the social campaign “Io sono STEM” and by the involvement of a number of exceptional testimonials to attract young people and students and entice them to pursue a career in these fields. Among the most notable personalities are Nobel physics laureate Giorgio Parisi, scientist Amalia Ercoli Finzi, physicist Lucia Votano, neuroscientist Giulio Deangeli, astronomer Marica Branchesi and marine biologist Mauro Celussi, just to mention a few.
