Cultural heritage and global change: 2023 JPI Call

Having climate change an increasing and lasting impact on our environment and society, it is increasingly important to protect cultural, historical and artistic heritage that is threatened by well-known, new and more extreme risks. There is still much to be done to complement existing findings, increase engagement and improving the degree of resilience, developing robust prevention and adaptation policies and strategies.

With these objectives in mind, the Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe (JPI Climate) and Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPI CH) Joint Programming Initiatives, in collaboration with Belmont Forum have recently published a new call for a Collaborative Research Action (CRA) on climate and cultural heritage

The call aims to support research in this field, by fostering collaboration among the research communities across several regions and contributing to knowledge advances and policy change at the global level.

In this context, the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has allocated two million euros as a non-refundable grant to fund proposals submitted by Italian candidates, by granting up to 300,000.00 euros to each project, regardless of the number of national partners involved.

The research proposals should address at least one of the following themes: the impact of climate change on cultural heritage; cultural heritage as a resource for climate mitigation and adaptation; sustainable solution for heritage.

Consortia submitting applications must be transnational and transdisciplinary and the project must have a maximum duration of 36 months

This is a single-phase call: the deadline for submitting both the international full proposal on the bfgo.org website and the supplementary national application on the https://banditransnazionali-miur.cineca.it platform is 8 September 2023.
