  • Giovanni Isopi, Sapienza University of Rome, for his thesis “The MISTRAL receiver: read-out electronics and observational strategies”.
  • Alessandro Giammarino, University of Trieste, for his thesis “Anisotropy of the non-equilibrium dynamics of the iron-based superconductors Ba(Fe_{1−x} Co_x)_2 As_2 revealed by broadband polarization-resolved optical spectroscopy”;
  • Eugenio Sturniolo University of Turin, for his thesis “Dielectric materials for the photonic quantum device in the microwave regime”;
  • Vittorio Chiavegato, University of Trento, for his thesis “Experimental investigation of force noise from actuation in the LISA gravitational wave”.

The Selection Committee chose the winners after evaluating the theses based on the following criteria: methodological rigour, originality, relevance to the topic of the competition, expected impact and applicability.
