Transforming Health and Care Systems: Healthcare for the Future call now open

Under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, the first Joint Transnational Call for proposals of the European Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) has been recently published, which brings together 63 partners from 26 countries – under coordination of the Italian Ministry of Health – including the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

The initiative aims to encourage the optimization of patient care pathways and contribute to the transition towards more sustainable, efficient, resilient, ethical, high-quality and accessible patient-centered healthcare systems.

In particular, the goal of the Healthcare for the Future call is to identify, develop and implement innovative solutions that can inform decision-making and optimize the delivery of health and care services across different settings.

For this first call for proposals, MUR has allocated a total of 3 million euros – up to 300,000 euros per project – from the Fund for Investments in Scientific and Technological Research (FIRST). Of these, at least 1 million euros, for the Italian partnership, is dedicated to proposals led by Principal Investigators under the age of 40 on the date of the call deadline.

Proposals may be submitted by universities, research institutions, public and private organizations, hospitals, foundations and any other healthcare providers, as well as SMEs. Project duration should range from 12 to 36 months.

Research consortia must include from three up to nine partners from at least three countries participating in the call.

Applicants must submit an Intent to Apply, by 23 May 2023, and then the full proposal, by 13 June 2023, which includes an international application, to be uploaded on the online platform, and a supplementary national application, to be forwarded to MUR through the dedicated website.
